5th Budo Exchange between Bordeaux and Fukuoka: transmission of a Japanese traditional discipline

In the modern Budo diciplines ( such as Kendo, Iaido or Naginata), Training the Man through fighting techniques enheritated from samourai is contributing over the body development to build human moral values of the practicers. It is with these values that we have welcome the Japanese delegation of SUMI Mastake Sensei (8th dan of Kendo) and SUMI Kaoru sensei (Hanshi of Naginata) in Bordeaux at the occasion of the 5th Budo exchange event between Bordeaux and Fukuoka. The advices and experiences that we all gained during this seminar are the expression of the correct act of transmission and the moral values of our disciplines through the different generations of all participants.

SUMI Kaoru Sensei was able to show to the 25 naginataka who came her energy and her willingness to help them to progress in all their different level. All the different atarashi naginata techniques were practiced ; kihon, shiai, and most of all; a lot of advices were provide to everyone with alot of kindness. The zen nihon kata were studied and 3 series of Tendo ryu during the week end.

The kendoka and naginataka of Bordeaux and Fukuoka presented a really nice public demonstration on the Mirror of Bordeaux. The rain came out during that demonstration but didn’t disturb it.

These exchanges exist for more than 30 years between the two cities. This friendship continues  thanks to the loyauty of man and woman who express their wish to share their common passion. We will never thank enough the kindness and the generosity of our sensei to offer us their knowledge and help us to overcome the one we were yesterday. The common point who unified our two country can be symbolised by the word: “WA”, Harmony.
