The Swedish Kendo Federation decided to begin 2017 with an intensive winter naginata seminar.
This time it was Sumi Kaoru Sensei who honored us with her visit. We are so grateful she took the time to travel to Sweden and teach us. We now have plenty of new things to work on throughout this year which will help improve our naginata. As usual, Sumi Sensei greeted everyone with a big smile and then made us work really hard. Not only did Sumi Sensei carefully observe everyone in their practice, but she also gave plenty of valuable individual feedback. She demonstrated, explained, and corrected everyone until she saw improvement.
We are proud to say everyone’s waza has become more refined after the two and a half days of training. Sumi Sensei provided us with plenty of kihon practice, plenty of waza practice, and then helped us apply it all in full bogu. We all had a wonderful time. Sumi Sensei also took the opportunity to teach Zen Nihon Kata and a bit of Tendo Ryu. The variation of the practice was very much enjoyed and helped us discuss and think about naginata from different perspectives. It is with great pleasure the Swedish Kendo Federation once again can summarize the events of yet another successful seminar.
We thank Sumi Sensei for taking the time and being able to travel to Sweden on such short notice, and we thank everyone who attended. You all made this seminar unforgettable.
